Gotta Watch Out For Selener

You know those songs that you first hear and you absolutely hate? But then they stick around, get in your head and then you find yourself singing it all week long? Well, today's #backthatazzup Friday is dedicated to my loving boyfriend who had to listen to me butcher this song up and down our apartment all week.

Poor Paul.
I think it's about time we get this weekend started!
See everyone back here Monday!

PS. I am super excited about how many Irvester Awards I've been nominated for. It's nice to see that all this drinking has finally paid off!

Rip Tide With A Lil Thirsty Thursday On Top

Welp, it's officially summer (someone better tell Michigan) and what better way to kick it off than to throw a big party and get everyone ridiculously silly? In college, my sorority had a ridiculous super top secret punch and everyone claimed it was the best of all other sorority's punches. I wouldn't touch the stuff.. way too much sugar and not enough booze for this chick.

SO, when I became in charge of the party planning and therefore, making the punch, I decided to swap out the usual and make Rip Tide. I tried it out during a party that involved us kidnapping all of our friendly frat's pledges. Warning: Do NOT serve to 18-19 year old boys. They will try and fight anyone and everyone, including their frat's president, and be kicked out of their pledge program.. or throw up & pass out in your front yard.

But since we're all adults here:

What You'll Need
A big punch bucket/bowl
30 pack of beer (I go cheap here, you can't taste it)
1 handle of vodka (cheap here too)
2 Liter Raspberry Soda
A couple of those Lemonade Concentrate things from Minute Maid
Cups

1. Pour everything into bowl or bucket
2. Mix it all around (I use the 2 liter bottle bc I'm lazy smart)
3. Serve with ice.. or not with ice. Whichev.
4. Don't pass out with your shoes on because then you're fair game.

You really can't taste any booze which is why this can really sneak up on you so be careful.. I'd say 2-3 of these guys and you're good to go. It is super tasty though and a cheap way to provide alcohol for an entire party!

How I Feel About Window Stickers?

Today is a good day ladies & gentlemen (lets not kid ourselves) Why? Because my computer stopped being a hooker long enough in order for me to post today AND because I got flowers!
"Dashing daisies for a dashing lady!" Can you tell he's in marketing?
I love getting flowers/presents/alcohol/really anything for no reason.

PDiddy got me something else last week for no reason
& I officially became someone that I used to make fun of.
Can you tell I found the Beautiful Mess app?
I used to make so much fun of people I saw driving around with these magnets on their cars. I had to quiet down my feelings about them after one of my best friends decided to display her love of her Doberman on the back of her G6 but I still made fun of her behind her back to her face.

Then I met Paul's sister who openly loved her German Shepherd all over her car and I think everything his sister does is cute so when we got Remi something weird happened. I started searching every pet store we went into for a magnet of my own but no one had a Great Dane one! (and I refuse to believe that no one loves their Great Dane but me)

I thought I was doing this super secretly but apparently not because I received this little gem in the mail last week and I couldn't have been more pumped. N
ext thing you know I'll be driving around with a bunch of little stick figures on my back window so I can become even more of a hypocrite.

The family stick figures are small talk compared to these little nuggets of goodness that dominated Dbag's trucks through the late 90s:

Nothing says "I have a small penis" more than one of these babies posted up on your back windshield.. but that's just my opinion. I wasn't planning on ranting about window stickers today but I guess stranger things have happened. Now go out and have yourself a wonderful little Wednesday while I go proudly slap this magnet on my car.

My Salsa Makes All The Pretty Girls Dance

Well hello there Blogland. Nice to see you again. I felt like I was doing something bad by not posting at all this weekend so it's good to be back.. Is it sad how guilty I was feeling?

Memorial Day weekend was probably the most laid back one I've had since I was 14 but I still got to eat, drink and be merry (is that just Christmas?) so I'm okay with that. This weekend actually made me feel bloggerish because before I'd let Paul take a bite of anything, I'd be all like "Hold on.. Need a pic for the blog." and he didn't even make fun of me for it. He's a good little Paul.

Friday - We went on a cute little date where we did apps one place, dinner another and then dessert at a brewery. Grand Rapids was just named Beer City, USA for the 2nd year in a row. This really means nothing to us because when we go to a brewery, we order vodka but I guess we were feeling kind of cool on Friday though because we actually ordered beer to go with our chocolate mousse and gelato cake.

Saturday - We spent all day at his sister's BBQ'ing then went out to a really late dinner where we drank martinis and tequila on the rocks.. which lead me to ordering a s'more tart. I have never liked dessert.. I don't know whats happening to me these days. My booty does not approve.

Sunday - We quickly headed out for some brunch and mimosa's and then headed on over to his family BBQ. I always love hanging out with his family because it makes me feel more at home. I didn't take any pictures but I DID make an awesome salsa that was devoured within 10 minutes of setting it out. You need to make it.

Summer Salsa
1 red pepper
1 orange pepper
1 green pepper
1 yellow pepper
1/2 red onion
1 can white corn
1 can black eyed peas

Chop all peppers and onion and add ingredients into large bowl

Add:
2 cups sugar
2 cups apple cider vinegar
1 cup vegetable oil

Let marinate overnight
Strain in the morning
Serve!
(& be the coolest person at the party because
everyone is going to ask you for this recipe)

I wish I had taken a picture because it's also really pretty to look at.

Monday - We did some Petco shopping for Remi then to see Hangover 3. I liked it better than the 2nd but really wish they'd come out with a 4th one.. I feel like they set it up for one but then they said it's the "epic ending." They're really playing with my emotions here.

And because I'm always a proud mama lately, look how cute/big Remi is!
Her new harness doesn't exactly fit her yet but she'll get there.

Backin It Up To 2005

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!! Hope you all are able to enjoy the beginning of summer while the temperature here reaches a high in the 60s. Why can't you be cool like all the other states Michigan? You're like one step above North Dakota to me right now.
(no offense if anyone happens to be from North Dakota.. I'm sure it's very lovely)

I'm being sad about being old today. I don't know why. I think it's maybe the fact that I graduated from high school almost 10 years ago (still got 2 to go) or maybe I'm just really being homesick for my besties back home that just a few years ago, I'd be hanging with them this weekend drinking our weight in Keystone Light.

So for my first #backthatazzup Friday, I thought I'd bring us back to a moment in time, a long long time ago, called May 2005. Where I had just turned 18, was so excited to get the heck out of high school and drinking beer around a campfire was a completely normal after school activity.

These are the people I'd be doing it with:
The fact that these pictures still exist on my Facebook probably isn't a good thing.
And here's what we'd be listening to:

& because it was noon time, down time, break time,
Summertime, Miller time, anytime:
Nothin' To Lose by Josh Gracin on Grooveshark

But we'd be dancing to:

You've Been Liebstered.

Well hello there Thursday.. you kind of snuck up on me. Can't beleive it's already Memorial Day weekend! If summer flies by as fast as spring did, I'm going to be more than a little upset.

A few days ago something kind of exciting happened! Adriana from Dog Hair Is An Accessory nominated me for a Liebster Award! Now after doing some heavy research AKA googling, I still can't figure out where the Liebster Award originated but it recognizes small blogs which I think is pretty awesome. Adriana is also pretty awesome so it was exciting that she'd think I'm worthy! She's also cohosting a giveaway and did a tutorial today on a really cute little ring holder so you should probably go check her out if you haven't already.

Here's how the Liebster Award works:

Acknowledge the blog that nominated you (oh hey, Adriana)
Tell 11 facts about yourself
Answer the 11 questions the nominating blogger created
List 11 bloggers with less than 200 followers that you believe deserve some recognition
Post 11 questions for them to answer
Notify them that they've been nominated
You can't nominate the blog that nominated you

So let's get this thing going shall we?

11 Facts You Wish You Already Knew (Or Might Already Know) About Me

1. I have brown eyes that I wish were blue.
2. I have double jointed thumbs.
3. Country music is pretty much the only thing that plays in my car.
4. I have five best friends that have been with me since the 1st, 5th & 7th grade.
5. I will cry during every single movie I watch.. sometimes commercials.
6. I candy crushed in my sleep twice this week. No more Candy Crush before bed.
7. I was once a professional sorority girl.
8. I have one tattoo but want another.
9. I dance around the house.. by myself.. most days.
10. I don't know how to whistle.
11. Fish scare me.

11 Questions From Adriana

1. Who's been your biggest bloggy help? I am completely clueless when it comes to blogging so I've gotten a lot of help from a lot of awesome girls but probably my biggest help has been Erin at Two Thirds Hazel and she can't get too annoyed with me because she's my IRL friend... which I just recently learned what IRL means.

2. What "Most Likely To..." superlative would you get now? (doesn't have to be traditional) "Most Likely To Marry A Bald Man" which in high school would've never been the case. Most Talkative and Most Flirtatious but never marry a bald(ing) man.

3. What's your favorite movie to quote?

4. What's one thing that surprised you about blogging? All of the amazing people I've "met" through it. I never thought that I'd make friends while blogging.

5. What's the first thing you do when you get home from work? Get into the biggest pair of sweat pants I can find.

6. What's your favorite social media outlet? Instagram. Give me pics of your baby and dogs any day over the whining/bitching over politics, gun control and Obama that Facebook has become.

7. What's your go to/signature drink at the bar? Vodka/soda with lime in the winter and Vodka/water with lemon during the summer. Fireball and Rumple if I'm feeling spicy.

8. What's your dream career? Become Lisa Vanderpump Own my own restaurant and then have it get its own reality TV show.

9. How many times do you snooze your alarm in the morning? Never.. Once I'm up, I'm up.

10. What's your favorite summer activity? Boating/Beach/Drinking beers/Fishing/Camping/Tanning/Swimming without any fish around me.. Roll all of those in together and thats my favorite summer activity.

11. Flats or heels? Flip flops. BUT if we're going out, heels. I need all the help I can get in the height department.

Okay, this is the hart part. Finding 11 bloggers that I know & like AND have less than 200 followers:

I think I have to cheat a bit and only list 9.. my other favorites have 200+ followers. Ya'll are just too popular.

Now some questions for you lovely ladies to answer:

1. What's your favorite flavor of ice cream?
2. Channing Tatum or Bradley Cooper?
3. Your all time FAVORITE quote?
4. If we were stranded on an island, what are three things that we'd most definitely need?
5. What's one tip you could give about blogging?
6. What's on your summer bucket list?
7. Do you have any funny/strange/gross/amazing hidden talents?
8. What's your biggest fear?
9. Besides mine (wink), who's blog do you read the moment you wake up?
10. What's your biggest pet peeve?
11. I'm throwing a party. What are you bringing?

Not expecting you all to participate because I know it's a lot of writing but..
you've been Liebstered.

Just Call Me Tiger

Today is a sad day. Paul is in Ohio for work and its my first time away from him since we've been dating. I know how ridiculous that is but I was weirdly sad saying bye to him this morning. I guess it's just nice to have someone to miss. Enough of that..

Since he was going out of town, we went on a middle school worthy date

last night and I loved every second of it.
Paul was super pumped that his shoes matched his club and I was super pumped that I got a hole in one!

AND.. Guess who won?!
ME! by one stroke.. but still. ME!!
(I also beat him in number of mosquito bites)

While we were there, some people decided that the bumper boat pool
looked like a nice little place to swim.. ew.

Congrats on that new skin disease ya'll.
High off my big win, I decided to challenge PDiddy to a game of skee ball and whoever lost had to buy drinks.. I should've bet on mini golf instead.

So now Remi and I are off to go have a girl's day while dad's away! AKA play tug of war until she's tired enough to nap so that I can clean the house. Fun stuff.

Mondays Are For The Birds.

Oh Monday, you do nothing for me. The weekend always does though so here we go:

Friday - We went out for a cute little date at a nice restaurant on the river. Nothing says romance more than a few vodka/sodas and a cheese plate. Afterward, we met some friends at a wine bar but then quickly headed over to a whiskey bar. I clearly learned nothing from Wednesday night because I got back into the Fireball.

Fast forward to Saturday - Paul made me breakfast in bed got breakfast to go at one of our favorite breakfast places and brought it home to his dying girlfriend. We went on a double date with his parents and then out for some frozen yogurt. They charge by weight so sorry about our $25 ice cream order. It was amazing so I don't feel about it.

It's healthy because it's frozen yogurt just don't mind my cookie dough bites.
We then went to see Great Gatsby and I still don't know how I feel about it. I loved all the fashion, fun music and Leo but hated Daisy. I do want to accessorize my head like she does though.

Sunday - We BBQ'd at Paul's parents and his niece & nephews got to play in a blow up alligator pool which sadly, was too small for me. Then we met my old room mate and her new man friend out for some sangria pitchers. When asked what you're doing later, don't reply with "well.. there's a documentary on at 9 that we want to see." You will feel 90 and people will laugh at you.

I know we all watched Selena Gomez lip sing, Justin Bieber make an ass of himself, and Taylor Swift awkwardly dance during the Billboard awards last night but did anyone else watch North America on the Discovery channel? It's like Planet Earth but better and you never feel the need to punch a wolf in the face like you do with Justin Bieber.

And now a picture of Remi because no post is complete without one.

Isn't she pretty? I think so too.

I Just Want A Pudding Pop.

I apologize for yesterday's post. I'm not usually such a hot mess but sometimes things just happen.

It is absolutely gorgeous outside and I'm loving the fact that summer is maybe, finally here! I don't want to jinx it because it was 80's all last week then the weekend brought temps in the 30's and even some snow flurries (thanks Michigan).

Warm sunny days make me miss having a pool. I LOVED waking up in the morning, throwing on a bikini and just laying by the pool all day getting my vitamin D fix. Now our "yard" is a 5x10 patch of stones. Stones. We are the only house in the neighborhood without grass. Awesome.

So as I was thinking about how much I miss having a pool, I started to think about other things that I miss during the summer.

Being 100 lbs - Thanks college for f'ing that one up for me.

Pudding Pops - I have searched high and low for these little pieces of heaven on a stick. Do they seriously not make these anymore?! What the heck Jell-O?

Bonfires - Growing up in upstate NY, you have a lot of bonfires. There was nothing better than a big fire in the middle of the woods with all of your underage friends and a bunch of Milwaukee's Best.

Hide&Seek/Tag - How come we can't play these just because we are "adults" now? I'm sure there is some way we could coordinate alcohol into it and make it more adult friendly.

Palm Trees - I want one in my yard. My stone filled yard.

These Refreshing Beverages - I'm pretty sure I got a stomach ache every single time I had one but you couldn't not have one.

"Jammie Rides" - When I was little and I'd have sleep overs, my mom would tell us all to get in our pajamas and then we'd go for a ride to go get ice cream. I don't know why this was so fun but we all seriously thought it was so cool being out in public in our pajamas. This is pretty much an everyday norm for me now.

Day Drinking - I used to be a pro. I think I'll work on this one.

The Jersey Shore - Growing up, going down to the shore was the best. week. ever. Before Snooki and the gang ruined it.
I'm sad about it too Deena.
Welp, happy Friday!! Remi wanted to say hi and show you how big she's getting!

She's going to be taller than me soon. Not hard to do.. but still.

Judge Me With Me

I may or may not have slept in the dress I wore out to happy hour last night. Go ahead and judge me because I'm judging myself right along with you. Fireball.. gets me every single time.

Yesterday I fully intended to write a post but that was before the adventure of going blonde took 4 hours. 3 hours of which my hair was bright orange.

I was late to my hair appointment because of "car trouble" which is what I told the receptionist. Said car trouble was the fact that when I walked outside to get into my car, my car was nowhere to be found. A little back tracking and I remembered that my car was still at the bar.. from Saturday. Go right on ahead and judge me on that one too.

Back to the hair appointment. I sat in a chair with bright orange hair for 4 hours but it somehow ended up okay. I'm the blondest I have ever been and I'm kinda loving it! If I wasn't completely dying of Fireball overdose, I'd get all dolled up and take a few selfies but since I am, we'll just have to settle with a really awkward car one from yesterday.

Oh hey no makeup. Gross. I apologize.
While at happy hour that turned into me blacking browning out (because I remember most things) before 10PM, Paul agreed to do a guest post for me! I can't wait for you guys to "meet" my future husband.. even though I'm still waiting on that ring.. which I guess I reminded him of once a few times last night.

In an effort to kick this hangover, I'm going to go stuff my face with salad mac&cheese and watch the Nashville episode I missed last night. I guess my diet starts next week. You're allowed to judge me on that one too.

I'm Obsessed.

My Obsessions
(as of May 14, 2013)
(they change daily)

Cards - I have every single birthday, Christmas, graduation, St. Paddy's, going away, miss you, Groundhog's Day etc. etc. card that I have been given since I was in the 6th grade. Whenever I get a card in the mail, it's like Christmas came early. If you give me a card, I'll love you forever.

Mint - I want all of these.

My Phone - This obsession needs to chill out. Candy Crush and now Running with Friends is taking over. Last night Paul and I were sitting next to each other on the couch trying to outrun each other so that the bull wouldn't take us down and I couldn't help but think how ridiculous we would've looked if someone walked into our apartment. I made us play Yahtzee instead. Remi watched.

Lisa Vanderpump - I want to be her. Enough said.

Napkins - (Katy if you're reading this, I know you're dying right now) I need a new napkin after each bite of food. I'm not messy I just don't like to use the same napkin twice. Chicken wings? My napkin pile is sky high and probably embarrassing.

John Krasinski - Before there was Paul, there was John. He's still in the picture but only when we watch The Office or one of my fave movies, It's Complicated. Is there a cuter relationship than Jim & Pam's? (Other than this season where Jim was starting to royally piss me off) I'm going to be all ugly cry face on Thursday when my favorite love story ends but I'm still hoping for a Michael sighting.

True Blood - The new season starts June 16 and I need to find someone with HBO stat. I couldn't be more excited to see what the weird shit Bill turned into, will Sookie love Eric this season and who the heck is Warlow? I'm also still waiting for Jason to turn into a "werepanther" even though I think that ship sailed back in season 4.

Miranda Lambert - She is a girl after my own heart. If I was able to write music, my songs would sound exactly like hers. Angry and bitter little man hater. (Until I met Blake Shelton Paul)

Sun Dresses - I'm pretty sure that I keep this place in business. It's a problem. My bank account is pissed.

via
Diet Pepsi - I would give my first born child for one right now.

Ellen - I would give my second born to be able to dance on her show.

PDiddy - aka Paul and not Puff Daddy. He is the only person I can be with all day everyday and not ever get sick of. He's my person. He's better than any True Blood birthday card that Lisa Vanderpump could ever send to me. There's my sappy moment of the day.

At "The Bean" in Chicago
Side note - I think I'm going blonde(ish) tomorrow!! Inspired by Minka Kelly.

Not the cut. Just the color.
What do you guys think? I'm nervous so you can easily talk me out of it.

The Horse Named Remi & Other Things

I hope everyone had a fun time with their mama's this weekend! PDiddy really spoiled me yesterday morning with a McMuffin for my Mother's Day breakfast. Hey, at least I got something. Better than when the Easter bunny forgot me.

I'm just excited to be able to celebrate. Shout out to Remi for that one. Speaking of, home girl is getting bigger. She's doubled in size since we got her so I thought I'd show you the little nugget's feet.
The left is from the day we got her and the right is from Saturday. Our little girl is growing up and will probably resemble a horse before we know it.

Peanut butter has saved our lives. I've never been much of a peanut butter fan myself but Remi can't get enough. I never thought that a jar of Jif would become my best friend. Throw some PB in a Kong, put her in her crate and voila, a 20 minute shower minus a howling Great Dane! These are the things that excite me these days. It's depressing.

She's obviously thrilled.
Our weekend was pretty laid back and I'm not complaining at all. The weather decided it was winter again and I had to trade in my flip flops for real shoes and I was pissed. We even had some snow flurries yesterday! Welcome to Michigan.

Friday - I became addicted to Candy Crush. Is anyone else's life being ruined by this game? Went to Paul's parents house for his little sister's birthday party. She's turning 26 (like me) so we like to be the babies together. Came home, had some wine. Went to bed. Thrilling, I know.

Saturday - Remi had her first vet appointment and they said she was "perfect." As if she needed a bigger head. I had to go to work after which was super slow but I didn't mind. I got off at 7 then PDiddy and I went to a late dinner. Did a few more shots of Fireball than I probably needed then time traveled to Sunday.

Sunday - I was pretty depressed over not being able to be with my mom. I miss her a ton and it magnifies on holidays. Pity party aside, we had a nice time at Paul's grandmother's with all 50+ members of his family. I swear there's a new baby every single time we go. They come out of nowhere. Afterward, we went shopping.. not for me but for Remi (of course). Then finished a box of wine while watching Jack Reacher. Not a bad movie! I like Tom Cruise's characters way better than I like Tom Cruise.

So there you have it! I'll try to be more exciting next weekend.
I'm also trying to be more exciting on Twitter.
Be my friend! @c0rtneyjustine

Just a Little Thank You

Is it completely silly how excited I am over 30 followers? I know this is a very, very small milestone (if its even one at all) but its a big one for this girl! I first started secretly reading one of my sorority sister's blogs which lead me to a lot of yours because I figured if she liked you, then heck, I probably would too. You probably definitely know her as Erin at Two Thirds Hazel. And I was right.. I really, really liked you guys. I felt like such a creep but you all made me want to start one myself. Put it all out there like you all do but I never expected anyone to actually read it. Except maybe my mom.. who doesn't even know I have a blog.. or what a blog is for that matter.

I wish you all lived next door so we could split a pitcher of Sangria and hear about your cute pups, new recipes and embarrassing stories over happy happiest hour. Until you all make the move to Michigan though, I'll be over here stalking you daily. Thanks for being awesome.

I'm off to lunch with the man sauce but Happy Mother's Day weekend! Hug your moms extra hard for those of us that have to Facetime with our mothers. Teleportation needs to get invented yesterday.

15 Ways to Bug Your Bartender

I have to work tonight and am seriously dreading it. I know I shouldn't complain because most of you are 9-5'ers and I at most work 20 hours a week. For those of you that have never bartended before though, I have to deal with the most annoying human beings known to Earth. Drunk ones. I thought I would share some of my pet peeves as a bartender today because I know some of you will appreciate what I'm talking bitching about!
1. "What's your cheapest beer?" You're obviously going to be a great tipper.
2. "This has like no alcohol in it." I pour drinks how I like them. Strong. So you're dumb.
3. "Can you make me something fruity but strong?" Does that even exist? I work at a sports bar and my boss doesn't believe in a blender. Enjoy your $8 Pucker with pineapple juice. I'm also probably going to ID you.
4. "I don't know what I want. Just make me something." You're going to have to be a tad more specific. I don't know you. I don't know if you like whiskey or if you hate vodka. If it's busy I'm seriously going to hate you for this one.
5. "I'll just have a beer." We have 18 on tap. Most bars have more than just one kind of beer so I suggest you pick one you like because you sound really stupid saying that.
6. 50 year old hitting on me. I'm only being nice to you because I work on tips. I am men hitting on mein no way shape or form interested in you. You could be my father. Go away.
7. People that ask for water but don't take a single sip. Thanks for that extra glass I have to wash for no reason ya dick.
8. "Do you have a charger?" When it's super busy and you're making me run around looking for a phone charger, I may act super friendly but I'm secretly wanting to punch you in the face.
9. "Do you have anything on tap?" 18 taps of beer behind me and you're asking that question? Again, go away.
10. "We know Brian."  (Brian is my boss) Good for you. He acts like he knows everyone. He calls you "babe" because he can't remember your name and probably not even your face. You aren't getting anything for free so good try.
11. Get out of my way. If I have to say "Excuse me." more than once, you are in my way. Sit the F down.
12. Know what you want before walking up to the bar. When it's busy, I don't want to sit there and watch you make up your mind. I didn't come to work today just to serve your indecisive self.
13. "Make it a strong one." I'm going to pour you a double and charge you for it.
14. Tipping in change. Seriously?
15. Whistling/Snapping/Holding your glass in the air. I'm ignoring you for the rest of the night. Congratulations.
I could go on forever so I'll just stop right there. Don't get me wrong, bartending is good money and I have made some pretty amazing friends doing it but holy hell, some people just make you want to throw a bottle of vodka at them. I never would.. because that's alcohol abuse and illegal.. but I have definitely thought about it.
Before I forget, ya'll should follow me on Instagram so that I can stalk your pictures while I should be doing other things like applying for jobs that don't involve drunk people. @cjustine24
