Flying Is Fun

But for me, it's a full blown disaster. We're back from our fabulous little vacation that turned into a bit of a road trip all because I'm pretty sure I jinxed myself in my last post. That whole anxiety attack comment about airplanes? Yeah.. about that..

The reason I wanted to create a blog was because I wanted to create a little diary about my life to look back on and see all the stuff that we did that I might forget about later. Because, like the title, they are the "little things" and I like vodka. Vodka tends to make me forgetful. Welp, if I'm going to write about the good stuff, I have to write about the bad stuff too. This is in the bad embarrassing/terrifying stuff category.

I was completely relaxed getting on the plane. We had an amazing flight down and an awesome vacation that I can't wait to brag about but had consumed a little too much sun & alcohol so we were both pretty ready to come home.

Ready for the plane ride there!
I get on Facebook and immediately see something about the plane crash in Bali.

Great.

The pilot then comes on and starts saying that the turbulance is going to be pretty bad and he wanted to warn us.

Heart racing. Tears forming.

Paul tries to calm me down. Pilot comes on again, "we're going to be bumped around quite a bit and then 45 minutes in, our flight will deteriorate quite quickly."

Hyperventilating, can't feel my hands or arms.

A steward asks the stewardess to get a lot more sick bags because they were going to need them. Hear the pilot say something again about really bad weather.

Blank.

I'm awake again, a man who says he's a doctor is trying to find a pulse and telling someone that it's too weak. I pretty much don't remember anything from there until I'm back inside the airport, sitting in a wheel chair, getting my blood pressure taken by a medic. He tells me that the plane that had started to take off, had to stop, turn around, and come back to the airport. Yup, that's not embarrassing at all.

After 45 minutes of convincing people that I didn't need to go to the hospital and then making friends with the firefighters that had come to my rescue.. yup, firefighters. Paul and I were finally able to go rent a car to begin our drive from Florida to Michigan. 20+ hours compared to the 2.5 that it'd take by plane.

Poor Paul was amazing and so good to me. Most guys would've made that drive horrible by just being mad the whole time or even just pretending I was sleeping instead of telling the stewardess we needed to get off the plane. Marrying the crap out of him someday.

Moral of the story:
Planes + Cortney - Vodka + (Overly?)Honest Pilot = Panic Attack From Hell

I'm just happy I didn't make the news.

Birthday Week

It's the most wonderful time of the year!! No, not Christmas silly.
MY BIRTHDAY WEEK!

Anyone who's known me since about the age of 3 knows that my birthday doesn't last for only one day. Nope, a wonderful, alochol fueled week of fun, friends and cake. I'm not a huge fan of cake so it usually ends up on me.. and everyone around me.

25th Birthday Celebration

Birthday week briefly became birthday month in college but I've toned it down a little since then. Only a little though. BUT what better way to spend birthday week than here:

and here:

and maybe even with these guys:

The boyfriend is taking me to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida because I'm in serious need of a palm tree fix then we're ending our week in Orlando. I kinda sorta want to go hang with some gators but we'll see how the week goes. I feel like turning 26 while laying on the beach with a Mai Tai in hand and my cute boyfriend by my side won't be as depressing as turning 26 anywhere else. Can I just be 21 again?! K thanks.

First things first though.. I have to get on a plane. I hate fear planes more than anything in the world. I seriously go into a full blown anxiety attack just from picking a friend up from the airport.

Oh well.. nothing a little vodka can't fix.

Puppy Time (Part 2)

Happy Tuesday! AKA 8 days until this girl turns 26 while laying on the beach in Ft. Lauderdale with some sort of fun little cocktail in hand. I have some awesome/adorable/life changing news though!

I'd like to introduce Miss Remi Rae:

Doesn't she look like a black lab puppy?
She's a 3 week old Great Dane puppy and she's all ours!! I was so excited/nervous to go and pick her out yesterday. We had four baby girls to choose from and they were all so sweet. We picked our little Remi because she fell asleep in both of our arms which probably just meant she was tired but we thought knew it meant she loved us.

Thanks to my Instragramming skills she looks a little blue here but she's all black with a little bit of white on her left toe. (and my hair looks like hay.. step away from the straightener Cort) She is going to be the most absolutely spoiled little HUGE girl in the world and I can't wait to bring her home April 27th! It was terrible not being able to take her yesterday.. like having a baby and then not being able to bring it home for a month. I know babies are much different than puppies but this is our first fur baby.

We get to go back and visit her after Florida so at least she gives us a cute little reason to actually want to come back to Michigan. Aah! I can't wait!

Well.. it's a nice, sunny, 28 degree day. WHERE ARE YOU SPRING?! At least the birds are chirping I guess.

Puppy Time

Woooo!! APRIL IS FINALLY HERE! Birthday month AND heading off to Florida in one week. Couldn't be more excited for some actual sunshine and warm weather! I think we're all needing winter to be over.

The weekend was so busy that I'm actually enjoying my Monday. March Madness just isn't as much fun when you work in a sports bar. Especially in Michigan where the Michigan fans are some kind of other breed. The whole place felt like it was going through a small earth quake every two seconds on Friday night and then Saturday everyone couldn't have cared less about the REAL game - CUSE! So this weekend will be interesting while I'm bartending in orange and everyone else there will be chanting GO BLUE! Sit down, drink your beer and be quiet.

So the Easter bunny forgot to bring me a basket this year.. for the first time ever. It was a bit of a sore subject yesterday until my mom told me I'm "too old" for a basket. Too old?! Forgive me if I'm wrong but I don't think anyone is ever too old for the Easter bunny. I would like to think he would swap out jelly beans for some mini bottles of flavored vodka or maybe that light gray Essie nail polish I've been wanting. To be fair though, Paul didn't get one either.

Once we got over the whole no Easter basket debacle, we headed over to his grandma's to share some brunch with all 50+ members of his extended family. I come from a very small family so it's always a bit overwhelming for me at first.. and really I think everyone there. Pretty uneventful until we were getting ready to leave and Paul's sister runs into the kitchen, frantic.. her and husband had mistakingly locked their 1 year old in the car.

Out came the coat hangers, wrenches, screw drivers and even a pole that a bird house was attached to. I kept his sister calm while she called the fire department. After 15 minutes of 10 men prying the doors open with multiple tools, Bode was saved! Holding the keys and one of his shoes he had managed to get off. The fire department was told to go home when they got there a minute later. I took lots of pictures.. had to document those Easter memories.

Today is the best day ever by the way! Why? Because we get to go pick out our new little bundle of joy.. a Great Dane puppy! We've been wanting a puppy since pretty much the day we moved in together but couldn't decide on a breed. I wanted an italian greyhound because I'm obsessed with Jenna Marbles and her little nugget of a dog, Kermit. Paul wanted anything huge but mainly a bull mastiff so we "compromised." I'm super excited for a Great Dane though.. She'll be bigger than me in a few months but I'm cool with it. I can walk her by myself and feel safe because my dog will be the size of a small horse.

Gotta love compromise.

Still Figuring Things Out

As I've said before, I'm still trying to figure out what I'm doing with my life. I've got a lot of it figured out.. I moved from upstate New York to Grand Rapids, Michigan when I was 22 because I thought I was at the age where I could just do random things like that. Grand Rapids was a big(ger) city and I was bored of my little town where I had known the same people since the first grade.. which is weird because that's one of the main reasons why I miss it so much now.

Three years had gone by and I had met some amazing people & did some amazing things that I would've never done if I stayed back home but was so home sick I was about to throw in the towel when one day I'm sipping on a cocktail at a Boyz II Men concert in what was supposed to be my last summer in Michigan & I see this gorgeous man standing in line at the beer tent. I grab my girlfriend and we go strike up a little convo with him and his friend. It was a hot day and the vodka/water's were tasting really yummy I guess because when said gorgeous man turned around to order me a beer, I decided to grab his butt. Now for people that know me, I would never ever do something like that! I didn't even use just one hand.. yup, I used both.

Wellllll.. I guess it was love at first inappropriate groping because we immediately started dating and moved in together a month after. So when I say I have a lot of my life figured out, I mean that I'm going to marry that boy someday.. which means living in Michigan probably forever. Now I just need to figure out what the heck I want to be when I grow up!

At least we get to tell our kids we met at a Boyz II Men concert.. I think I'll leave out the butt grab for at least a little while. Welp, now I'm off to go get people drunk like because it's my job..

First Post.. For Real.

So it's Easter time and what better way to celebrate than to color eggs with your 30 year old boyfriend?! We're both about the age of 10 when it comes to anything having to do with the holidays. My mother sends me cards every holiday.. and I mean every holiday. She says I always find a way to celebrate anything (ex. groundhogs day, presidents day, if pets had thumbs day) and manage to drag my friend's down with me. Usually with liquor.

So, we color eggs last night and they looked great:

But today.. not so great:

Is there some secret to coloring eggs that 10 year old me knew and forgot to share with 25 year old me?! I'm honestly embarrassed to even put them on display so neon colored egg salad here we come. Oh well, better luck next year I guess.

PS. If Pets Had Thumbs Day is real.. March 3rd. Happy belated!

My First Post.. Kinda.

No idea how to go about creating a blog so here we go. First things first, hi there! I'm Cortney. A 25 (almost 26) year old chick trying to figure out what the heck to do with my life.. other than drink vodka.
